I have a warm place in my heart for dishes and items from the Soviet period. The design and simplicity simply captivate me.
With the great immigration of USSR Jews to Israel in the 1990s, more and more Soviet-era items began popping up in Israel. These found their way to flea markets, where I could acquire them for myself. Even today, even though they are harder to come by, I still collect them whenever the chance arises.
These red-orange dishes, often dotted in white, like childish mushrooms, have always enchanted me in their simplicity and humor.
I use these dishes and other similarly themed items to create bases for hand-sculpted clay heads, breathing new life into old things.
